He appeared 219 times during his 15-year career at Leinster where he regularly captained the team, with four European Cup Titles, and six Pro-14 medals (2008, 2013, 2014, 2018, 2019, 2020).
In 2012 he was crowned European Player of the Year, Leinster Player of the Year, and IRUPA Player of the Year. After winning his last title with Leinster, Rob went on to play for Western Force in Australia for the 2021 season and upon his return to Ireland, returned to his Louth GAA club - Cooley Kickhams.
Rob has given back to the sport he loves by being chair of the Rugby Players Ireland for seven years, working with his fellow professionals to improve the sport for future generations of professional rugby players – men and women. He now regularly participates in TV and radio and plays an active role in a number of businesses across a wide sector of industries.
Rob has been ambassador for Our Lady’s Crumlin – now Children’s Health Foundation Crumlin for over ten years and has seen at first hand the dedication of staff to patients and their families. And also the need for lifesaving equipment such as the two ultrasound machines he is hoping to be able to donate to the hospital after the event.
Rob has wandered the wards of Crumlin with the Heineken and Six Nation trophies under his arm bringing smiles to the faces of patients AND parents and during Covid switching on the Christmas tree lights as children looked on from their wards – in isolation but sharing a sense of festive joy at the same time.
Over the past decade and countless selfies, autographs, video messages and signed jerseys later Rob is as committed to supporting this incredible hospital and its staff as it continues to support sick children and their families.
